TORIE BEGG

Torie Begg (1962 - 2022)

British-born artist Torie Begg, was a prolific abstract painter, active from the mid eighties to late 2000s.

Her most celebrated work is the ‘Apparently..’ series of paintings. Monochromatic squares of layered acrylic paint on canvas, ranging in size from 20cm to 350cm square.

Each of the works has a signature dribble to the side, revealing the layers of pigment that make up the final surface colour. Begg referred to this as the “articulated edge”.

Torie Begg was a prominent part of a group known as the ‘British Reflexive Painters', during the 1990s. Exhibiting alongside the likes of Ian Davenport, Jason Martin and Gerhard Ritcher. With notable shows In New York, Paris and London.

We now have a selection of paintings available for viewing by appointment at our N1 gallery space.

The digital catalogue is also available upon request here.
