Exceptional chest of drawers constructed of solid cedar.
Japan late 1850s.
These ‘tansu’ cabinets were designed with both practicality and mobility in mind. With each element removable and therefore easier to transport.
The hand cast drawer pulls are especially pleasing. As well as some hand written calligraphy on the inside of each drawer.
There’s a small historic ink stain on the very bottom left drawer. See close up photo.
